Ontario Pond 2010 Scotch Nosing

The Ontario Pond was pleased to host the 10th annual Scotch Nosing on April the 8th 2010 at the posh Rosewater Room. Over 150 Ganders and guests attended the sold out event enjoying an amazing evening of fine dining, camaraderie and excellent rare scotch samplings. Under the direction of Ed Patrick, President of the esteemed Canadian scotch whisky appreciation society “The Companions Of The Quaich” (see http://www.thequaich.com), the following samples were presented under the theme of “Distillery Editions: Clynelish - double matured, distilled in 1992, Royal Lochnagar - double matured in old Muscat casks - distilled 1996, Caol Ila - distilled in 1996, Glenkinchie - double matured - distilled in 1995, Oban - Double malted - Distilled 1995.
A special guest appearance was made by Jack Jackson, Piper and distinguished member of the Robert Burns World Federation. The Pond is extremely grateful to Bill Blakeney and Ruth Henneberry for generously in donating all the scotch for the event. Thanks to the efforts of Laurie Walker and SOF JP Strasler, over $1000 was raised in raffle proceeds. Congratulations to Gander Alf Strudwick on winning the prized $300 bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. It did not go without notice that his 7 lip smacking travelling companions were greedily eyeballing his prize as he swaggered toward the waiting limo for home journey.
The staff of the Liberty Group/ Rosewater have once again gone above and beyond in their important role in the evening. Not only was a fine 5 course dinner served in excellent time 770 samplings of scotch were delivered to the guests with only one casualty. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the proceeds of the event went to our good friends at Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade. Thank you to all the Ganders and guests who came out and made this event, once again, one of the premier insurance charity events of the year.
